The Latin American Solutions Journalism Fund is pleased to announce a new reporting grants opportunity that will open on August 1, 2025. All journalists registered with the Fund are eligible to apply; for interested journalists who are not yet registered, we will hold two virtual training sessions over the coming weeks where they can learn about solutions journalism and become registered members of the Fund.
The new reporting grants will focus on nature-based solutions in Latin America. Nature-based solutions are defined by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as “actions that address societal challenges through the protection, sustainable management and restoration of ecosystems.” A cohort of 10 journalists from around the region will be selected based on their proposals for stories about such solutions. More details about nature-based solutions will be included when we publish the full call for proposals on August 1.
Selected journalists will receive training in solutions journalism, webinars with experts in nature-based solutions, and mentoring from the certified solutions journalism trainers who lead El Colectivo 506 as they develop their stories. They will also receive a $500 reporting grant to create a story on a nature-based solution in their country, for publication by a national media outlet and co-publication in English and Spanish by El Colectivo 506 for greater reach.

If you are interested but have never received training in solutions journalism: our Fund is offering two free, virtual introductory workshops before the close date. Each workshop lasts 90 minutes; you need attend only one to register with the Fund. At the end of each workshop, participants will be able to register with our Fund and apply to the current call for proposals, as well as all future calls.
