Introducing Entrepreneurs 506: tools for small businesses in Costa Rica

Entrepreneurs that are part of El Camino de Costa Rica project. Thomas Enderlin / El Colectivo 506

In our first year of publication at El Colectivo 506, we’ve become entrepreneurs ourselves—and we’ve met many more, with stories that are inspiring, frustrating, and always unique. Now, we’re proud to inaugurate a new initiative dedicated to the country’s entrepreneurs.

As always, we’re particularly focused on the country’s rural areas. Part of the reason we created El Colectivo 506 was that we’d seen how resources are often designed or distributed in ways that leave rural communities behind. That’s why we’ll not only share information, but apply our signature in-depth, solutions journalism-informed approach to study what’s working for rural entrepreneurs, what’s not, and who’s finding ways to bridge the gap.

Here’s what you can expected from Entrepreneurs 506 in the coming months:

  • Free Trainings and Events: We’re kicking off Entrepreneurs 506 with a free training in partnership with “Pulso Empresarial with Nilsen Buján,” the first of many trainings we’ll be offering to provide Costa Rica’s micro, small, and medium businesses (MIPYMEs) with resources and information. Register for this special event here.
  • Columns and Information: From practical tips, to Voices columns, to profiles and longform pieces, we’ll continue to feature MIPYMEs, their challenges and successes in our bilingual digital magazine. To see what this looks like, check out Business 506 here.
  • Directorio 506: The other branch of our microenterprise, Directory 506, is now open for all rural community tourism businesses and nonprofits. Create a free profile today to get on the map and help us share Costa Rica’s rural communities with our magazine readers. Read more about the project here.
  • Special January Edition: To help move all of this forward, we’re preparing a special month-long edition in January 2022 focused on Costa Rica’s micro, small and medium businesses. We’ll focus on the tested solutions that are making entrepreneurs’ lives easier in Costa Rica, including a frank discussion of these tools’ limitations and challenges. Would you like to be a part of this special edition, a toolbox for hard-working entrepreneurs? Contact us via email at [email protected] or via WhatsApp at 8506-1506.
